1. Parents: The First Investors With No Exit Plan

Your parents invested 18 years of compound interest in you. No shares, no returns asked. And you complain they don’t understand “Gen Z stress.”

The unseen math: 

School fee: ₹1.2 lakh/year × 14 years = ₹16.8 lakh. That’s a flat. 

Your shoes: ₹2,000 every 8 months because “sabke paas hai.” Their shoes: 3 years old. 

Your phone: ₹18,000. Their phone: screen cracked, “chalta hai.” 

Real example: A father in Khammam drives auto 14 hours. Son wants iPhone for reels. Father takes loan, skips BP medicine for 2 months. Son posts “Struggle is real” with coffee photo. Father likes it. That’s love. That’s unseen. 

Real example: Mother packs dabba at 5:30 AM. Eats cold food at 11 AM. You say, “Aloo daily?” She starts waking 5:00 AM to make paratha. You don’t notice. She notices you ate full. 

Parents don’t need your salary. They need your sight. See them before life makes you miss them.

What you can do today: 

1. Ask, “Papa, aapka sapna kya tha?” Listen 10 minutes. 

2. Do one chore they do daily, without being told. 

3. Say “Thank you for fees” out loud. Not text. Voice.

1. Message 1 old teacher: “Because of you, I can do X.” Be specific. 

2. Visit school on Teachers’ Day. Not for selfie. For 5-minute talk. 

3. Don’t interrupt the next class. Her energy is limited. Your respect is free.

Every topper stands on a teacher’s shoulders. Most never look down to say thanks.

3. Workers: The Invisible Backbone of Your “Normal Day”

Your “normal” is someone else’s 4 AM. Your “boring” day is someone’s overtime.

A. The Farmer: Your Food’s Father

Unseen: 4 months for wheat. No Sunday. If rain fails, loan fails. If crop works, price falls. 

You see: “Aata ka rate badh gaya.” 

Real example: 2023 onion price crash. Farmer sold 1 acre onion for ₹600. You paid ₹25/kg same week. He still farms. Because if he stops, you stop. 

You pray before exam. He prays before sowing. Both want result. Only one can lose everything.

B. The Lineman & Sanitation Worker: Your Comfort’s Bodyguards

Unseen: 11 PM power cut. He climbs pole in rain. No insurance. 1 slip = family gone. 

Unseen: Gutter cleaned at 5 AM so your street doesn’t stink. You hold nose for 2 sec. He holds breath for 2 hours. 

Real example: Hyderabad 2020 floods. Linemen stood in waist water to restore current. One died. Next day, you complained “WiFi slow tha.” 

You get angry when light goes. Be grateful when it comes. Someone risked life for that switch.

C. The Driver & Security Guard: Your Time Buyers

Unseen: School bus driver leaves home 5:15 AM. Eats at 11 AM. Remembers 40 kids’ stops. Forgets his child’s birthday. 

Unseen: Society watchman, 12-hour night shift. Sleeps on chair. You say “So jata hai.” He’s awake when thieves aren’t. 

Real example: Mumbai dabbawalas. No tech, no app. 99.99% accuracy since 1890. Harvard studies them. You rate Swiggy if 5 min late. 

You pay for the product. They donate the peace.

What you can do today: 

1. Look at nameplate of guard, driver, maid. Use name once. “Ramesh bhai, thanks.” Name is respect. 

2. Give water, not advice. Summer is coming. Bottle > “hard work karo.” 

3. Don’t litter because “koi saaf kar dega.” That “koi” has a spine, kids, and dreams.

You want to be a hero. Start by noticing the ones who already are.

4. The Heroes You Never Meet: Donors, Writers, Researchers

Someone you’ll never see died testing a medicine you took for fever. Someone wrote a textbook in 1990 you abuse today. You are alive because strangers cared.

Real example: Jonas Salk invented polio vaccine. Could’ve patented it. Worth $7 billion. Asked, “Would you patent the sun?” Gave free. Your legs walk because he didn’t bill. 

Real example: NCERT book writers. No fame. ₹500 per chapter maybe. You write “boring book” on page. 20 crore students read it. 

Real example: Blood donor. You got blood in 20 minutes. He took 20 minutes from job, got biscuit, left. No photo. No post. 

Your life is a group project. Most members didn’t ask for credit. Give it anyway.

1. See Them: Use Names, Meet Eyes 

“Bus uncle,” “Maid,” “Guard” are not names. Ask once. Use always. “Lakshmi didi, chai loge?” 2 seconds. Her whole day changes.

2. Say It: Specific Thanks, Not Generic 

Not “Thanks for everything.” Say “Thanks for waking 5 AM for dabba when I had exam. I saw it.” Specific = real. Generic = fake.

3. Share Load: 10-Minute Rule 

Take 1 task they do. Daily. Wash your plate. Fill bottles. Check copies if you’re elder sibling. Their back gets 10 min younger.

4. Speak Up: Give Credit in Public

Win award? Stage pe bolo: “My Class 6 teacher, Sunitha ma’am, made me write daily. This is hers.” One line. She’ll replay it 10 years.

5. Set Standard: Don’t Let Others Disrespect Them

Friend says “Driver gadha hai.” Stop him. “He gets us safe daily. Word wapas le.” You protect heroes, you become one.

You want to be remembered. Start by remembering.

The Final Story: The Bridge You Didn’t Build

Two villages. River between. No bridge. Kids swim 2 km for school. Daily. 6 months rain = no school.

Find the bridge. Find the builder. If alive, touch feet. If gone, touch lives like they did.
